How Online Excel/CSV Splitter Works

When handling datasets with millions of rows, spreadsheet software often freezes or crashes. Additionally, many platforms (like Shopify or Email marketing tools) have strict row limits for imports. Our tool helps you break down massive files into smaller, manageable chunks.

Three Core Steps:

  • 1 Parse: We use the ultra-fast SheetJS to read your file locally and identify headers.
  • 2 Slice: The data matrix is cut into sub-matrices based on your row count preference.
  • 3 ZIP: All generated files are bundled into a single ZIP archive for a one-click download.

When do you need to split tabular files?

Import Limits

Many CRM, ERP, and e-commerce systems limit CSV imports to a specific number of rows (e.g., 5,000 max).

Prevent Crashes

Huge reports (hundreds of thousands of rows) can crash Excel or Google Sheets on standard computers. Smaller files run much smoother.

Data Collaboration

Divide a large file among multiple team members for simultaneous data review and faster results.

Email Attachments

Standard email providers have attachment size limits. Splitting data into smaller parts ensures successful delivery.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Will the header row be preserved?
Yes. Our tool automatically detects the first row as the header and replicates it in every split file to ensure data integrity.
What is the maximum file size?
Since processing is 100% local, it depends on your device's RAM. Generally, Excel files up to 50MB or CSVs up to 100MB work perfectly.
Is my data uploaded to the cloud?
Absolutely not. All processing happens in your browser. Your data never leaves your computer, making it 100% secure for business and private data.
Can I split all sheets in an Excel file at once?
Currently, you can select one sheet at a time to split. If you have multiple sheets, simply switch the selection and generate a new ZIP.
Do you support splitting by file size?
This version focuses on splitting by row count, as it's the most requested feature. Splitting by KB/MB size is in our future roadmap.
Will my CSV characters get garbled?
No. We output CSV files in UTF-8 with BOM by default. This ensures perfect compatibility and clear characters when opening directly in Microsoft Excel.
Does it support merged cells?
Splitting inherently breaks layouts. If your spreadsheet relies heavily on complex merged cells, the result might lose alignment. A flat data list is recommended.
Can I customize the output filenames?
The tool automatically appends "_part1", "_part2", etc., to your original filename. This keeps things organized and easy to track.
